Moving Towards Daily Awareness

The Time Has Come

Sometimes I sit in front of my computer and nothing happens, I cannot tap into my creative streak and just end up staring at a blank screen to no avail.  At other times the compulsion to write wells up from very deep within but with no means of foretelling where it will take me.  I write simply because writing is one of the best medicines I know of and because I find it very liberating, a cathartic exercise in a way.  I enjoy the roller coaster ride of special joys and pangs that come with writing.  Time and time again, I become one with each piece I write and the only reality that exists is the one I have conjured up with my choice of words, for this is congruent with my heart of hearts. The door opens to reveal a world where time is immaterial and suspended.  Writing then becomes meditation.  And more to the point here, poetry writing brings a profound sense of peace and fulfillment.  For what is poetry if not “a spontaneous overflow of powerful emotions recollected in tranquility” (- Wordsworth)?  Poetry enables us to go inward, and unravel what we know from what we don’t.  Poetry is an expression of the self, a baring of one’s soul.

So what prompted me to write the following acrostic poem?  Perhaps an inner knowing of what most of us now know and yet still cower and dither at the thought of taking the first step.  However, there always comes a time when burying one’s head in the sand is no longer an acceptable option, if it ever were.  We are all, individually and collectively, responsible for the welfare of our little planet.
