JAPANESE YOGA

September 13th. Easing your way into Zen Meridian Yoga

A Japanese system of yoga which has stretches for all the meridians used in Oriental Medicine. These focus on visulaisation and breathing so that you relax into the stretches. Suzi will look at the alternatives partaicularly how meridian stretches be taught to people who are stiff. £24.00

September 27th. Oki Yoga with Tomoko

Master Masahiro Oki (1921-1985) re-introduced yoga in the light of the fine Japanese culture of Zen, and emphasised an importance on applying the essence of yoga in our daily activities rather than recommended exercising asanas for hours a day separately from the daily life.
Therefore in an "Okido" Yoga class, we do not challenge many extreme postures of traditional Indian Yoga, but rather use techniques for correcting imbalance, coordinating breathing and movement, and putting strength on our physical gravity point (hara), which would bring softness in the upper body. Tomoko has been developing her teaching techniques by following Master Oki?s philosophical guidance. In her lesson, the first part is aiming at recreating stable physical condition, using a variety of individual exercises to develop a sense of physical integration and balanced energy, and in the last part students taste the comfort of meditation.
* Okido means Oki's way; the Japanese word of "do" means "a way of searching the truth of life". For instance, the same "do" is used as Aiki-do, Ju-do, Ka-do (flower arranging of Japanese-style), etc. The concept of self-discipline in daily life is characteristic in the traditional Japanese culture.

An introduction to Japanese yoga. £24.00
Both days £40.00
